When Keith heard that the Phantom of the Opera was going to be in Columbus, he thought we had to go. I have never seen Phantom but was eager to go see a show of such acclaim. We wanted to make sure we had the time (such busy folks) and enough financial resources (baby on the way); thankfully, God cleared the calendar and allotted the funds... so off we went.
We chose the Tuesday evening performance, which was a little less pricey than the weekend ones. And, bonus, Tuesday was a beautiful day! We parked at the State House and then walked to a restaurant on Mound Street called The Jury Room. Neat atmosphere with great casual food, including Spaghetti Alfredo Fritters. Yup, that's deep-fried balls of spaghetti alfredo on a bed of marinara sauce. Wow!
The sun was still shining as we walked back towards the Ohio Theatre for a wonderful performance of the Phantom of the Opera. The actress who played Christine was amazingly good, as was the Phantom and Raoul. It is such a pleasure to hear live music done so flawlessly. The special effects were eye-catching and added to the excitement. Our only disappointment was the teeny, tiny live orchestra. It probably should not have been called an orchestra but rather an ensemble. They played well but the impact would have been so much better with a larger group of instrumentalists.
