Gift of Godchildren

When you think of the Godfather... does that deep Italian accent enter your mind? Marlon Brando, as a man responsible for other people, saying, "I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse."?

What about a Godmother?  Does the tune to Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo echo between your ears? Perhaps a magic wand making dreams come true?

Those are both fun images but God knows that true blessing is being a godparent.  A true blessing and true responsibility. My godmother is my aunt.  And she did a great job of reminding me of the blessing of my baptism.

shower.
I, in turn, have been blessed. One of the most wonderful ways God has rewarded me is through the gift of godchildren. Two special children to love and help grow in the kingdom of God.

My friend, Stacie, so graciously asked me to be the godmother for her lovely daughter, Larkyn, in 2011. This was quite an honor for me.  Larkyn is super fun, energetic, and assertive.  Just the kind of child that God wanted to give Stacie and her husband.  I was so glad to be there the day she was baptized into God's family.  I am blessed watch her grow in-step with God's promises for her life.

I pray for Larkyn daily.  I also have received a special prayer request or two from her momma when the daily stuff gets... challenging.  Wish I could do more than pray.

My friends, Carrie and Jim, recently asked me to be the godmother for their son, James. Again, this was wonderful, rewarding news for me.  A role I take very seriously.  James's baptism was wonderful... he was washed by water, oil, and the Holy Spirit. Carrie and Jim are godly parents and if I can support them and help their child to know Jesus better, I couldn't ask for more...

Except for maybe a cannoli.

White as Snow

Psalm 51:7
Purge me with hyssop and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Jesus came that we may have life.  Easter reminds us that we can be washed white as the snow that fell on the ground early last week.  White is such a cleansing image.  It is pure.  It is beautiful.  It sparkles. Our most recent snow fall (could it be the last?) was during Holy Week and it bathed the city in the pure beautiful white snow. The beautiful white lilies in church with their trumpet shape herald the good news of Jesus' death and resurrection.  He returned alive so that we may have life... and may we live it abundantly forever with Him!

Lilies around the altar... yup, we sat up front!
Easter morning at our house: year two.
Some of the good eggs!
Our "living" cross ... people brought flowers from home to
insert in this display cross.  Couldn't get photo from a better
vantage because the lobby was full of people. =)
